Zumba has been a huge part of my life since 2012—and honestly, it was love at first dance. I’ve always loved moving, and Zumba quickly became my happy place. Whether I’m feeling on top of the world or just need to shake off a tough day, you’ll find me in a dance studio or gym, dancing my heart out.

So, when I found out about the MVP Olympics Dance Fitness competition, I was beyond excited—equal parts thrilled and nervous! It definitely wasn’t easy, especially since I was also busy organizing other sports while competing in the dance fitness category. Talk about multitasking!

Since it was my first time joining, I had no idea what to expect. It felt like stepping into something big—something way out of my comfort zone. With limited time, I reached out to our Zumba instructor, Mark Balatucan, to help with choreography. He then teamed up with fellow instructor Wilson Abello, and just like that, magic happened. I loved how we blended techniques, creativity, and fun into every routine.

Then came another big challenge—recruiting 20 participants. Sounds simple? Not quite! I had to consider age requirements, skills, and everyone’s availability. But along the way, I got to meet and connect with so many amazing people across MPTC, which made the whole experience even more meaningful for me.

MPTC Dance Fitness Team: (Second Row L-R) Cyril, Annel, Lesley, Josephine, Irish, May, Kiichi, Shawn, Analyn, Mia, Iris, Vince; (First Row L-R) Rhea, Daphnie, Winx, Madel, Quiella, Jean, and Sese.

We started practicing on January 20, training almost twice a week for a month. It wasn’t always smooth—I saw how we all had different styles, personalities, and schedules—but I was proud that we made it work. I kept reminding myself that we were all working toward one goal: to proudly represent MPTC.

What started as a group of colleagues—and even strangers—became something more. I saw everyone step up and give their best. I realized it wasn’t just me who had a passion for dancing. I witnessed the entire MPTC Zumba/Dance Fitness Team showing bravery, heart, and genuine love for what we were doing. Not everyone was a dancer, but that didn’t stop anyone. I saw how passion, hard work, and determination brought out the best in each of us.

We entered the competition as underdogs, just hoping to do well… but we ended up surprising even ourselves. In the end, I felt incredibly proud when we brought home silver medals in two categories: choreographed and on-the-spot.

For me, winning the medals was amazing—but what I’ll treasure the most are the memories, the friendships, and the journey we shared.
